The impact of consumerism on small businesses this weekend

Small businesses around the country are gearing up for two of the busiest days of the year – Black Friday and Small Business Saturday. In Sioux Falls, South Dakota, small businesses play a crucial role in the local economy, accounting for two-thirds of net new jobs. With about 98,000 small businesses in the state, supporting these businesses means supporting families and employees.

For many small business owners, this weekend can be make or break, determining whether they end the year in the black or in the red. Owners like Becky McElroy of Mary’s Mountain Cookies emphasize the impact of supporting small businesses on the community, from helping to put money into college funds for employees to providing unique and handmade products for customers.

Stores like the Makers Exchange in Tea, South Dakota, are experiencing a boost in business this weekend, just two months after opening. The store features items from 105 small businesses in South Dakota, offering a variety of products for all ages. With popular items like signs, clothes, and art projects, customers can find something for everyone while supporting local businesses.

As shoppers head out to support small businesses during Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, they are not only supporting the local economy but also helping families and employees thrive. The Makers Exchange in Sioux Falls will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, offering a wide range of items from local businesses.
