James Craig, a Colorado dentist previously charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Angela Craig, is now facing new charges of solicitation to commit first-degree murder and solicitation to commit perjury. These charges stem from his alleged attempts to kill a detective involved in the case. According to reports, Craig was in jail with a man he allegedly sought to have murder the detective on multiple occasions.
Authorities initially believed Angela Craig’s death was due to poisoning by arsenic and cyanide, but the coroner later attributed it to cyanide and tetrahydrozoline found in eye drops. Evidence against James Craig includes his internet search history and online purchase of potassium cyanide, which was flagged as suspicious by his business partner.
At a court hearing last year, Craig’s defense lawyer stated there was no direct evidence linking him to poisoning his wife’s drink. However, the lawyer withdrew from the case just days before jury selection was set to begin, citing concerns about his client’s actions. As a result, jury selection has been indefinitely postponed.
Despite pleading not guilty to the first-degree murder charge, James Craig now faces additional serious charges related to an alleged plot to kill the detective investigating his wife’s death. The Aurora Police Department spokesman confirmed the accuracy of reports regarding the new charges filed against Craig. It remains unclear who will represent Craig in light of his previous lawyer’s withdrawal.
