New York woman makes progress in unraveling 44-year-old mystery of her grandparents’ disappearance

Christine Heller Seaman, a New York woman, has been haunted by the disappearance of her grandparents, Charles and Catherine Romer, for 44 years. The couple went missing in 1980 while traveling from Miami Beach to their home in Scarsdale, New York. Worries of foul play surfaced because Catherine was wearing valuable jewelry. They were reported missing after failing to check out of a hotel in Brunswick, Georgia. Recently, their car, a 1978 Lincoln Continental, was found submerged in a pond in Georgia, with one human bone discovered inside. Personal belongings found in the car, such as jewelry and a license plate bearing their initials, have given the family hope that the mystery may soon be solved.

Although the human remains have not been identified, Seaman and her family believe that the couple may have died in an accident rather than falling victim to a crime. The recent developments have allowed the family to celebrate the lives of Charles and Catherine and share happy memories of them, rather than feeling dread and sadness. Seaman remembers her grandmother as the life of the party, who had a close relationship with her and her sisters, while her step-grandfather, Charles, was a lovely and generous man.

Seaman expressed gratitude towards investigators and a diving team from Florida who located the submerged car. Despite the shock of the recent discovery, the family is thankful for the efforts made to bring closure and peace of mind. Seaman believes that the resolve provided by these developments has given her and her family permission to celebrate the lives of their missing relatives and remember them in a positive light.
