The NCAA Division I football championship committee announced the 24 teams competing for the 2024 championship, with 16 teams seeded for the first time in history. The championship field consists of 10 automatic qualifiers and 14 at-large qualifiers, with unseeded teams paired in the first round.
Notable automatic qualifiers include Abilene Christian, Montana State, Southeast Missouri State, and UIW. At-large selections feature teams like Eastern Kentucky, Illinois State, and Villanova. Montana holds the most tournament appearances with 28, followed by Eastern Kentucky with 23.
The tournament begins on November 30 with first-round games airing on ESPN’s family of networks. The championship game will take place at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas, on January 6, 2024.
