Georgia stages dramatic comeback to defeat Georgia Tech 44-42 after 8 overtimes

Freshman Nate Frazier ran for a 2-point conversion in the eighth overtime to give the No. 6 Georgia Bulldogs a 44-42 victory over Georgia Tech after an improbable comeback in a marathon game. The Bulldogs fell behind 17-0 at halftime but managed to tie the game at 27-all by the end of regulation. Quarterback Carson Beck threw five touchdown passes, including two in overtime. The Bulldogs trailed most of the game but managed to force overtime. Georgia Tech’s Haynes King ran for three touchdowns and threw for two more, but the Yellow Jackets still lost their seventh straight game to the Bulldogs.

The game was the longest in SEC history and one overtime shy of the FBS record. After a back-and-forth series of overtimes with matching touchdown passes, the game came down to 2-point conversions. Both teams converted in the fifth overtime, but Frazier finally ended the game by running in the winning 2-point conversion in the eighth overtime. King initially extended Georgia Tech’s lead in the final minutes of regulation, but the Bulldogs rallied, forcing turnovers and scoring late to keep the game going. The victory may have secured a spot in the College Football Playoff for the Bulldogs, regardless of their performance in the upcoming SEC championship game.
