Beavers dominate on South Dakota trip, defeat Black Hills State


Minot State University’s men’s basketball team continues their winning streak after defeating the Black Hills State Yellow Jackets 71-64 on the road trip in South Dakota. The Beavers displayed great defensive effort and grit, according to head coach Matt Murken. Caleb Van De Griend led the team with a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Jalen Cook and Jaxon Gunville also made significant contributions with 15 and 13 points respectively.

The game saw Minot State take an early lead with a 15-0 run in the first half, but the Yellow Jackets fought back to tie the game at 53-53. However, the Beavers regained control with a 14-0 run to secure a 67-53 lead and ultimately win the game 71-64. Notably, Minot State never trailed in the second half and shot well from three-point range, making 7 out of 17 attempts.

Caleb Van De Griend’s standout performance earned him a game-high 21 points and 11 rebounds, contributing significantly to the Beavers’ victory. The team’s overall strong defensive play and effective shooting from beyond the arc were key factors in securing their perfect record, now standing at 9-0.

Minot State’s next game is against St. Cloud State University on December 6th at 7:30 PM. The Beavers look to continue their winning streak and build on their recent success as they face their upcoming opponent.
