The annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Rockefeller Center in New York City is set to take place this Wednesday, November 30th, and will be hosted by Kelly Clarkson. The event will be televised live on NBC and streamed on Peacock, with a lineup of music stars and the tree lighting finale. VIP tickets are available for those who want a closer view of the tree, which boasts over 50,000 multicolor LED lights and a Swarovski star designed by architect Daniel Libeskind. This year’s tree is a 74-foot tall Norway spruce from Massachusetts, donated by Earl Albert in honor of his late wife. Once the festivities are over, the tree will be donated to Habitat for Humanity to be used for building homes. The ceremony is part of a long-standing tradition that started in 1931 at Rockefeller Center, with the first televised lighting taking place in 1951. After the event, the tree will be lit daily from 5 a.m. to midnight through mid-January, with extended hours on Christmas Eve and an early 9 p.m. cutoff on New Year’s Eve. Throughout the holiday season, visitors can enjoy the magical sight of the illuminated tree in the heart of New York City.
