Connecticut’s congressional delegation, including Democratic Reps. Jim Himes, Jahana Hayes, Joe Courtney, John Larson, and Rosa DeLauro, as well as Sen. Chris Murphy, were targeted with bomb threats at their homes on Thanksgiving. However, no bombs were found, and law enforcement is investigating the incidents. The members of Congress expressed gratitude for law enforcement’s swift response and emphasized that political violence has no place in the country. Local police departments are working to trace the source of the threats, and the FBI is collaborating with state and local partners on the matter. U.S. Capitol Police and Connecticut State Police are also involved in the investigation.
The incidents come as part of a coordinated effort involving multiple members of Congress and public figures. In the past year, Capitol Police have investigated over 8,000 threats to members of Congress, indicating a rising trend of threats and violent rhetoric. President-elect Donald Trump’s planned administration officials were also targeted with bomb threats earlier in the week.
Despite the threats, the targeted representatives and senator emphasized the importance of peace and civility, especially during the holiday season. They expressed gratitude for law enforcement’s efforts to keep them safe and reiterated that acts of political violence will not be tolerated. The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed at this time.
