WEG, in collaboration with COPEL, UFSM and VEGOOR Tecnologia Aplicada, has successfully completed a research project aimed at increasing the reliability and useful life of power transformers in Brazil. The project focused on replacing traditional Kraft paper with hybrid paper as a solid insulator in transformers, along with using vegetable insulating liquid for sustainability. The upgraded transformer, equipped with new technology such as a direct temperature measurement system and hybrid paper coils, now has a higher power capacity of 73.6 MVA. The transformer was reinstalled at a hydroelectric plant in Paraná, where it will not only enhance the plant’s reliability but also operate more sustainably, reducing environmental impact and costs. This successful project showcases WEG’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in the energy sector.
