Suspect in custody after shots fired at Atlanta Four Seasons Hotel building

A police officer and a suspected shooter were injured in a shooting incident at a high-rise building in Midtown Atlanta. The suspect, identified as 70-year-old Jay Stevens Berger, opened fire from a residence on the 33rd floor, using multiple guns. The police responded after a dispute between a building worker and the suspect. Negotiations were attempted, but the suspect refused to come out. Eventually, police breached the door of the unit and took the suspect into custody. Both the officer and the suspect were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will investigate the officers’ response to the incident. The shelter-in-place order for the area was lifted, and the situation was deemed under control. The Four Seasons hotel and residences in the high-rise were not directly involved in the incident. The safety and security of guests and employees remain a top priority for the hotel. The incident, which involved multiple gunshots, was resolved without any loss of life. The floor where the shooting occurred was evacuated, and the surrounding area was secured during the incident. The suspect will face charges of aggravated assault and other possible violations.
