A resident of Vermillion, South Dakota was involved in a car accident near Hawarden, Iowa on October 29, 2024. The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reported that Abul Shaifullah, 49, was driving a Chevrolet Malibu northbound on Highway 12 when he collided with a Buick LeSabre being driven by 29-year-old Brandon Sjaarda of Hawarden. Sjaarda allegedly failed to stop at the intersection, resulting in the crash. Shaifullah was taken to Hawarden Regional Hospital by ambulance for treatment of injuries sustained in the accident.
Both vehicles sustained approximately $3,000 in damages. Shaifullah was cited for operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license and with expired registration, while Sjaarda was cited for failing to obey a stop sign and yield right of way.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of following traffic laws and regulations to prevent accidents and injuries on the road. Authorities are urging drivers to always pay attention, obey traffic signals, and ensure their vehicles are properly registered and licensed.
