Task Force Uncovers Security Failures Prior to First Assassination Attempt on Trump’s Life

A House task force investigating the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump during a campaign rally on July 13 found a lack of planning and coordination between the Secret Service and local law enforcement. The report, based on interviews, documents, and testimony, revealed missed opportunities for law enforcement to engage the shooter before the attack. The shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, climbed onto the roof of a building and fired shots at the rally stage, killing a attendee and injuring others, including Trump. Despite efforts by local law enforcement to alert the Secret Service to the armed shooter, communication breakdowns delayed a response, allowing Crooks to evade detection for 40 minutes. The report highlighted the lack of coordination among law enforcement agencies before the rally, including the absence of Secret Service participation in briefings. The task force is still conducting interviews and investigating the attempt on Trump’s life at his golf course in Florida in September. Requested information from the Secret Service, FBI, and ATF. The Secret Service has not yet responded to the report. The task force is investigating further to understand failures in communication and coordination that led to the assassination attempt on Trump’s life during the July rally.
