Survivors of the destruction of al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza recount the tragic events that unfolded during Israel’s brutal assault on the enclave. More than a year after the siege, the hospital remains an empty shell, with most buildings extensively damaged or destroyed, and equipment unusable. The scale of devastation has rendered the facility non-functional, leaving the healthcare system in Gaza further compromised.
The hospital’s emergency department, surgical, and maternity ward buildings have been severely affected, with beds burned and incubators destroyed. Shallow graves have been dug outside the hospital, and bodies partially buried, highlighting the horror experienced during the siege.
Patients endured abysmal conditions, with a lack of basic necessities and forced relocations at gunpoint. The film by Zainab Walji aims to shed light on the devastation of al-Shifa Hospital and its implications for healthcare in Gaza. Edited by Jameel Hodzic and filmed by Media Town in Gaza, the documentary will bring attention to the ongoing crisis and the urgent need for support to restore essential medical services in the region.
