Former President Donald Trump announced at a rally that he plans to visit Springfield, Ohio, in the next two weeks, as well as Aurora, Colorado, as part of his ongoing false claims targeting Haitian migrants in those cities. Trump has spread baseless rumors about Haitian migrants eating pets, which have been debunked, as well as false claims about Venezuelans in Aurora. Springfield’s mayor expressed concerns about a visit from Trump, citing strain on resources, while Ohio Governor Mike DeWine reported bomb threats related to the false claims. The president of the Haitian Community Support Center in Springfield stated that the conspiracy theory has caused fear among Haitians in the community. Despite lack of evidence to support his claims, Trump has continued to spread falsehoods about Haitian migrants, even bringing it up during a recent debate. The Trump campaign has not provided further information about his planned trip to Springfield.
